April 02, (THEWILL) – Arsenal Manager Mikel Arteta has admitted that his side may need to win all of their remaining nine English Premier League games to clinch the title as they enter the “most beautiful part of the season.” The Gunners currently trail leaders Liverpool by two points ahead of a crucial April schedule.
Following Sunday’s hard-fought 0-0 draw against title rivals Manchester City, Arteta emphasised the need for Arsenal to maintain an exceptional level of consistency in their pursuit of the championship. “It’s going to have to be really close to that”, he said when asked if a 100 per cent record would be necessary.
Arteta acknowledged the high standards set by the other top teams and the demands of winning the EPL. “When you see the level and the consistency of the other teams and historically what is needed to win in this league, it’s not going to be very far from that”, the Spaniard added.
However, Arteta urged his players to embrace the challenge, starting with Wednesday’s home game against relegation-threatened Luton Town. “This is where we want to be, and now we want to take this opportunity and make it happen”, he stated, expressing his excitement for the intense run-in.
Arsenal’s fixture against Luton kicks off a packed April schedule that includes eight matches, among them the two-legged Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich. Despite their favourable odds against Luton, Arteta warned against complacency, recalling Arsenal’s dramatic 4-3 victory at Kenilworth Road earlier in the season.
