November 28, (THEWILL) – Arsenal have reportedly informed goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale that he will be allowed to leave the club at the end of the current 2023/2024 season. However, the Gunners do not intend to sanction an exit during the January transfer window without lining up a replacement first.
Ramsdale has fallen behind summer signing David Raya in the pecking order this season, being relegated to Carabao Cup appearances only. With Raya ineligible to face parent club Brentford last Saturday, Ramsdale was given a rare English Premier League start but appeared rusty with his distribution in the first half of a 1-0 win.
Manager Mikel Arteta had previously stated his intention for Raya and Ramsdale to compete for the number one spot, but it is becoming clear that he sees the Spain international as his first choice between the sticks. Ramsdale himself would now prefer to leave Arsenal even on loan in January to pursue regular starting football.
A number of EPL sides including Wolverhampton Wanderers, Bournemouth and Sheffield United are monitoring Ramsdale’s situation ahead of potential summer bids. Chelsea and Newcastle also retain long-term interest in the 24-year-old England international.
Despite outside interest, Arsenal are unwilling to let Ramsdale leave in January without lining up a replacement first. With other transfer priorities like bringing in a new midfielder, he is likely to remain at the Emirates Stadium until the summer.
