January 15, (THEWILL) – In a highly-anticipated North London Derby, Arsenal secured a 2-0 victory over Tottenham for their first-ever win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Although Hugo Lloris stopped Eddie Nketiah from scoring early, Arsenal did not have to wait long for the opening goal. Bukayo Saka managed to beat Ryan Sessegnon and score with a shot that somehow slipped through Lloris’ grasp. It was the keeper’s first own goal in a Spurs shirt.
Tottenham attempted to quickly respond, but a save by Aaron Ramsdale denied Son Heung-min’s effort. Martin Odegaard then doubled Arsenal’s lead with a strike from distance, while Thomas Partey hit the post with a powerful shot. Spurs also had a possible penalty overturned by the referee, and the score remained 2-0 heading into halftime.
In the second half, Tottenham continued to press for a goal, but efforts by Dejan Kulusevski, Harry Kane, and Ryan Sessegnon were all saved by Ramsdale, as he merited his Man of the match award. Richarlison also came off the bench for Tottenham but was unable to find the back of the net.
As the final whistle blew, Arsenal fans celebrated on the concourses of their rivals’ grounds, while Tottenham will look to bounce back against Manchester City on Thursday. Meanwhile, Arsenal’s quest for the title continues as they take on Manchester United next Sunday.
