Arsenal Cruise Past Luton to Maintain Title Charge

April 3, (THEWILL) – Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal maintained their push for a first English Premier League title since 2004 with a routine 2-0 victory over newly-promoted Luton Town. The win at the Emirates Stadium extended the Gunners’ unbeaten home run against promoted sides to 39 games.

Despite making five changes, Arsenal controlled proceedings from the outset. Kai Havertz and Oleksandr Zinchenko, saw early efforts blocked as Luton defended resolutely. However, the hosts broke the deadlock on 24 minutes when Havertz teed up Martin Ødegaard to clinically finish for a deserved opener.

The Gunners doubled their advantage before the break courtesy of an own goal from Daiki Hashioka, who inadvertently turned home Emile Smith Rowe’s cutback. Luton offered occasional glimpses after the restart, but Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya, remained largely untroubled as the hosts comfortably sealed all three points.

The victory lifts Arsenal top of the English Premier League table pending Liverpool’s result against Sheffield United. It also ended Luton’s league-high run of scoring in 18 consecutive matches, while leaving the Hatters winless in 10 and three points adrift of safety.
