September 22, (THEWILL) – Arsenal captain, Martin Odegaard, has signed a new long-term contract, with the club announcing on Friday, that the 24-year-old Norwegian playmaker has committed his future to the Emirates until 2028.
Odegaard’s previous contract was set to expire in 2024, prompting interest from clubs across Europe. However, the midfielder was focused solely on extending his stay at the Emirates Stadium. Since joining on loan initially in January 2021, Odegaard has made the number 10 role his own and was named club captain last summer.
“This was an easy decision for me and I’m delighted to sign a new contract,” Odegaard said. “What we’re building here is special and I want to be part of it. Arsenal feels like home and I’m excited about the future.”
Manager Mikel Arteta expressed his delight at Odegaard’s extension. “He is a top-quality player and great leader. Securing his long-term future is fantastic news,” Arteta stated.
At just 24, Odegaard’s best years are still ahead of him. Sporting Director, Edu Gaspar, was pleased to have agreed new contracts with a core group of young players to give Arteta the manpower he needs to drive the club’s ambitions. Odegaard’s commitment ensures Arsenal will continue benefitting from his creative talents.
