BEVERLY HILL, August 09, (THEWILL) – The Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Worldwide has asked the Federal Government to direct the nation’s security agencies to immediately arrest and prosecute the northern youths believed to orchestrated the circulating hate songs against Igbo people residing in the North.
In a statement signedon Wednesdayby its factional president, Mr. Eric Omare, IYC warned that the current situation in the country might degenerate if the Federal Government fails to do the needful by frontally tackling the source of the Igbo-disparaging song.
It noted that southerners would not sit idly by and allow their people to be gruesomely murdered without reprisal attack on northerners living in the South and expressed fears that situation in the north might worsen and possibly lead to the killing of southerners living the North.
Omare, who called on southerners living in the north to be vigilant in the days ahead, decried as sad the inability of government and security agencies to act on the hate songs that had gone viral on the social media.
He posited that the deliberate refusal of the government and security agencies to take action against several conducts by northern elements which threaten national security had emboldened those behind the quit notice and hate songs on Igbos.
The IYC, in the statement, called “on the federal government and security agencies to act fast to bring to justice and nip in the bud those propagating hate songs in the north against Igbos before it leads to the unnecessary killing of southerners living in the north.
“The news of a song calling for the killing of Igbos in the north has been reported by several newspapers; however it is sad to note that the government and security agencies have failed to act…It is very unfortunate that security agencies that would invite reputable Nigerians of southern extraction even for comments they know nothing about would turn a deaf ear to issues that threatens the survival of the country by northern elements.”
