July 04, (THEWILL) – The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major General Faruk Yahaya, has approved the appointment of Principal Staff Officers (PSOs), Field Commanders and other key staff that will provide the much-needed vigour in his command of the Nigerian Army (NA).
This was disclosed through the NA Posting released by the Department of Military Secretary on Friday 2 July 2021.
The Army in a statement by the Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, said, the COAS approved the appointment of the Chief of Operations (Army), Major General Ibrahim Yusuf, as the new Commandant, Nigerian Defence Academy, while Major General B.O. Sawyer is the new Director of Defence Information.
He also said Major General TA Gagariga would move from Army Headquarters, Department of Policy and Plans to the Nigerian Army Artillery Corps as Commander and Major General Victor Ezugwu becomes the Commander, Infantry Corps.
According to him, Major General MA Yekini is the new Chief of Defence Training and Operations, Major General MS Yusuf takes over as Chief of Defence Standard and Evaluation, while Major General Anthony Omozoje is the new Chief of Policy and Plans (Army).
Nwachukwu further disclosed that Major General SO Olabanji had been appointed the Commander, Training and Doctrine Command, while Major General OA Akintade would be the new Chief of Army Logistics.
He said that Major General OT Akinjobi has been appointed as the Chief of Operations (Army), Major General James Ataguba as Chief of Army Standard and Evaluation, while Major General KI Mukhtar becomes the Chief of Administration (Army).
Major General C. Ofoche is the new Chief of Transformation and Innovation, with Major General AB Ibrahim appointed as Chief of Training (Army).
Among the new field commanders are Major General Abdul-Khalifa Ibrahim, who takes over as the Force Commander, Multi National Joint Task Force, N’Djamena, and Major General IS Ali, who becomes the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and also double as the Commander Special Task Force, Operation Safe Haven.
The COAS equally approved the appointment of Commanders, Commandants of NA Institutions, Directors and other key appointments at both Defence and Army levels.
The appointments he said were aimed to rejig for efficiency in command and administration within the NA. These appointments take effect immediately.
