September 15, (THEWILL) – The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State says it will closely monitor how the State Government utilises the N3 billion released to it by the Federal Government to address the recent flood disaster in the state.

The State Chairman of the party, Prince Abdullahi Abbas, told newsmen in Kano on Sunday, that the party would ensure transparency in the use of the funds.

Abbas expressed concern over the alleged diversion of 130 trucks of foodstuff allocated to the state “for selfish interests”.

He said the Federal Government committed to reducing hunger in the country, but that the NNPP government in Kano is allegedly frustrating the efforts.

According to him, President Bola Tinubu has approved several palliative measures for poor households and vulnerable individuals, but those assigned to distribute them allegedly diverted the commodities.

The Chairman cited instances of senior NNPP government officials being allegedly involved in the diversion of palliatives.

He cited the instance of the Managing Director of the State Agricultural Supply Company (KASCO), Dr. Tukur Dayyabu Minjibir, who was found to have allegedly sold grains belonging to the State Government.

He said that the party would not allow a repeat of such incidents, and would ensure that the funds are used for intended purposes.

Abbas noted that the Federal Government had constituted a committee led by the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, to oversee the equitable distribution of palliatives in the state.

He reiterated the party’s commitment to prevent the diversion of funds meant for the people of Kano for political reasons, and ensuring that the relief funds are used to benefit those affected by the flood disaster.
