January 22, (THEWILL) – Ebonyi State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Saturday, held its state-organised rally at Ohaukwu Local Government Area.

Ohaukwu is the home of the pioneer civilian Governor of the State, who is seeking a return to the senate under the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The governorship candidate of the party, Rt.Hon. Francis Nwifuru, at the rally held at the Ohaukwu Council Headquarters, explained that the Izzi clan supported the emergence of Sam Egwu, to become the State Governor for 8 years, Minister, and Senator for another 8 years, while the Izzi people from the same Northern bloc with him had just waited.

Nwifuru noted that the incumbent Governor, David Umahi, has insisted on equity and fairness, such that he is supporting the emergence of an Izzi man as his successor, and for the first time, a woman as Deputy Governor.

He urged the Ohaukwu electorate to join in the quest for continual peace and an easy transition of power in the State by voting for him and other APC candidates.

Governor Umahi, in his address, called on Senator Egwu to give deeper consideration concerning his reelection bid in the interest of equity, justice and fairness.

Governor Umahi decried the situation where a major beneficiary of equity and justice could be advocating the return of power to the South after eight years, insisting that such would destabilise the political equation and peace of the State.

“I am ashamed that someone from Ebonyi North would appear in a poster with someone from my place, who is aspiring to replace me after eight years.

He said, “Having started the journey from the North, equity demands that it should return to the North after the Central and South have taken their turns”

Governor Umahi urged the people to reciprocate the gesture of the Izzi people by voting for the Governorship and Senatorial Candidates of the party in the forthcoming general elections.

The wife of the Governor, Mrs Rachel Umahi, admonished the people to strive to uphold their leadership status in the State by supporting the candidature of Right Honourable Francis Nwifuru and other Candidates of the APC ahead of the elections.

“My dear good people of Ohaukwu, I want you to remember that leadership of this State started from here, do not allow that status to elude you,” she started.
