SAN FRANCISCO, February 03, (THEWILL) – The people of Borno State have been assured that the gallant members of the youth vigilante group, popularly called Civilian JTF, who had been helping in the campaign against Boko Haram insurgency, will be incorporated into the military and paramilitary services under an All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidency.
The assurance was given on Tuesday in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, by the APC candidate for the House of Representatives, Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) Federal Constituency, Alhaji Abdulkadiri Rahis.
Rahis, who spoke at a media briefing, said: “All members of the youths volunteer group, popularly known as the Civilian JTF in Maiduguri city and other parts of Borno state will be recruited into the military and other para-military services of the country if General Muhammadu Buhari becomes the President of Nigeria.”
According to him, “No meaningful government will shy from engaging these youths that have sacrificed their lives, left their families, mobilised to protect Maiduguri and every part of Borno State against the insurgents who have heartlessly terrorised innocent lives and destroyed public and private property.”
Speaking further, he said: “I don’t think there is any government or person that will accept such wanton destruction and brutal killings for nothing sake. This is one of the reasons I have decided to join politics to actualise my vision and mission that even a poor child can rule and govern.
“If I am elected into the lower chamber of the National Assembly, I will ensure that all the teeming youths in my constituency are gainfully employed, we will engage them in various entrepreneurship ventures in collaboration with the federal and state governments.”
Rahis, was the caretaker chairman of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) before leaving to contest for a position at the lower chamber of the National Assembly.
Reeling out his achievements at MMC in the last three and half years, he said he had upgraded and renovated many projects that have direct impact on the people, which according to him, are physically on ground for everybody to see.
“Apart from the poverty alleviation programme my council embarked upon in reducing the large size of unemployed youths who were given vehicles and KeKe NAPEP (commercial tricycle) to make them self reliant, we have either rehabilitated or supplied hospitals and clinics with sufficient drugs and introduced free anti-natal services for pregnant mothers,” he disclosed.
According to him, efforts were also made to check the growing insecurity in Maiduguri by encouraging youths to protect themselves and their neighbourhoods against the insurgency through the Civilian JTF.
