SAN FRANCISCO, October 06, (THEWILL) – Xherdan Shaqiri has joined what is becoming a growing list of Liverpool players to test positive for the coronavirus. Although the positive test came while the Swiss was on international duty in Switzerland, THEWILL believes it will be cause for growing worries over whether more players in the Anfield-based English Premier League side have contracted the virus. This is after positive tests side-lined Liverpool players like Senegalese striker Sadio Mane and Spanish central midfielder Thiago Alcantara.
In a statement released by the Swiss Football Association and seen by THEWILL, it said: “Xherdan Shaqiri has tested positive for COVID-19. In consultation with the health authorities, he is in isolation. Clarifications are currently underway with the local health authorities about how to proceed.”
Switzerland is slated to tackle Croatia in a friendly on Wednesday, October 7. That match comes before they file out for their National League fixtures where they take on Spain on Saturday, October 10 and Germany on Tuesday, the 13th of October.
