May 24, (THEWILL) – The Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP) on Tuesday empowered its officials with the requisite knowledge on how to effectively coordinate and organise their activities in their various units.
The training, which was geared towards teaching members of the association how to effectively work with the management for the benefit of the workers, was well attended.
Declaring the one-day training workshop open in Sango-Ota, Ogun State, the president of ANAP, Comrade Kabir Gusau, said that an ill-equipped union official would not be able to stand before the management to defend the welfare and interest of other members, hence the need to update their knowledge.
Comrade Gusau added that trade unionism was not about banging tables when there are vexed issues between them and management.
He stressed that the focus should always be on resolving the issues amicably in favour of the staff and the overall good of the agencies and the industry in general.
“If you are not well trained, there is no way you can perform well. You will be making a lot of mistakes and you will think unionism is just about banging tables and engaging in Incessant strikes.
Gusau urged the participants mainly from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) branch to educate other members with the knowledge acquired to promote industrial harmony and also to gain the favour of their management.
In his keynote address, Secretary General of ANAP, Comrade Abdulrasaq Saidu said, the emergence of ANAP in the industry had changed the way workers welfare was handled.
He noted that the industry had been unlucky with bad management and government imposition and removal of management, which had led to low morale of staff and poor service delivery.
