February 28, (THEWILL) – Amid tension over the ongoing collation of presidential election results in Nigeria, former President Goodluck Jonathan, on Tuesday, led representatives of the ECOWAS Election Monitoring Team to presidential candidates of the four major political parties in the country.
The former President and the ECOWAS observers team including the President of Ghana, John Mahama, met Bola Ahmed Tinubu, presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in his Abuja residence, on Tuesday.
The Team also met with Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The meeting, THEWILL learnt, was not unconnected to rising tension over the call on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to halt the collation of presidential election results for neglecting the use of its IReV.
A source privy to discussions with one of the presidential candidates told THEWILL that the team urged the candidates to calm the tension in the country.
The ECOWAS team had earlier appealed for calm in the country while calling on INEC to address the concerns and procedural questions raised so far by different stakeholders.
