January 10, (THEWILL) – The founder of the prestigious film awards, African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, is dead.
The influential film-maker reportedly passed on at St Nicholas Hospital, Lagos, on Monday.
Confirming the news of her death, movie producer, Obi Emelonye, put up her picture on his social media page with the simple and cryptic caption, “Thank you and good night dada Peace.”
Similarly, veteran Nollywood songwriter and filmmaker, Mike Nliam, queried on getting news of her death, “How can 2023 start like this?”
A graduate of Law and political science from Oxford Brookes University, Peace pioneered the screening of Nollywood films at international film festivals.
She was bestowed a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic by the Nigerian government for her contribution to the entertainment industry.
