BEVERLY HILLS, June 05, (THEWILL) – Reports monitored by THEWILL reveal that north London club Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly laid their pursuit of Antonio Conte as manager to replace Jose Mourinho to rest. The club will no longer attempt to bring the former title-winning Chelsea and Inter Milan manager to the Tottenham Stadium.
After Mourinho was fired by the club, Academy graduate and former club player Ryan Mason was placed at the helm of the squad in an interim capacity, which allowed the club to put off finding a permanent replacement for Mourinho until the summer when a manager will be contacted to take over.
The club Chairman, Daniel Levy, made it a personal objective to bring Conte to manage the Lilywhites and was ready to make a substantial transfer budget ready to be put at Conte’s disposal as an incentive to convince the Italian to come to England and manage a London club again.
However, even though Spurs may have succeeded in their pursuit to appoint Conte’s former colleague Fabio Paratici, the ex-Juve sporting director, as one of their coaching staff, which was all part of the bigger picture of getting Conte, the Italian manager still had some reservations especially about the enormity of the work involved in making Spurs title challengers.
There have also been suggestions that considerations about salary demands and the limits placed on the number of backroom staff Conte can be allowed to bring along presented obstacles and stumbling blocks to Conte’s acceptance of what Levy and the Spurs’ club were ready to offer.
This means Spurs are back to the drawing board in search of a manager. There are a number of other options, including former coach Mauricio Pochettino, who was said to have asked to be released from his Paris Saint-Germain contract with interests from Spurs and Real Madrid in his services. With Carlo Ancelotti back at Real, Pochettino may be looking to return to Spurs.
Aside him, there is also Brighton Hove and Albion’s Graham Potter, whose footballing philosophy has delivered a fifth successive season of Premier League football for his side. He presents a chance for change and balanced football for Spurs and remains another potential target.
