Everton Post £89.1m Loss For 2022/2023 Season

April 1, (THEWILL)- Everton Football Club has revealed an £89.1 million loss for the 2022/2023 English Premier League campaign, according to their latest financial accounts released on Sunday. This substantial deficit represents a significant increase from the previous season’s £44.7 million loss.

The Merseyside club attributes the escalating losses primarily to the indefinite suspension of lucrative sponsorship deals with key commercial partners. This financial blow comes at a time when Everton’s finances are already under intense scrutiny from EPL authorities.

Everton face a potential further points deduction before April 8, in addition to the six points they have already been docked for breaches related to the 2021/2022 season. This is due to alleged violations of the EPL’s profitability and sustainability regulations, which stipulate that clubs cannot lose more than £105m over a three-season period or £35m per campaign without facing sanctions.

On the pitch, Sean Dyche’s men are currently 16th in the standings, just three points above the relegation zone, after suffering a 2-1 defeat at Bournemouth on Saturday. With nine games remaining, the Toffees are in a precarious position as they battle to maintain their top-flight status.

Amid the financial turmoil, Everton’s under-fire majority shareholder, Farhad Moshiri, expressed confidence earlier this week that the protracted takeover of the club by 777 Partners will be completed soon, potentially providing a much-needed financial boost.
