December 09, (THEWILL) – Nigerian singer and songwriter, Oladapo Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’banj, has been released by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
His Lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbei, who confirmed the development, said D’Banj was released on self-recognition on Friday afternoon.
THEWILL reported that D’banj was detained on Wednesday, by the ICPC after he surrendered himself at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
The spokesperson for the anti-graft Commission, Mrs. Azuka Ogugua, said D’Banj is being investigated over his alleged involvement in a fraud case associated with the N-Power Programme.
The pop singer was alleged to have fraudulently diverted hundreds of millions of naira earmarked by the Federal Government for the N-Power Scheme, an empowerment programme set up in 2016, to address youth unemployment and increase social development.
His lawyer said D’banj cooperated with the Commission during its investigation, adding that no evidence of fraudulent activity was traced to the singer.
“Nothing incriminating was found on him. He was released on self-recognition. Right now, we expect the ICPC to give a letter of clearance to Dbanj because, as we have always said, he is innocent of the charges brought against him”, the lawyer said.
