October 5, (THEWILL) – Trent Alexander-Arnold scored the best goal of the fixture as Liverpool defeated Rangers 2-0 to earn back-to-back UEFA Champions League victories.
Despite being somewhat behind the curve this season, Jurgen Klopp’s team quickly took the lead at Anfield courtesy of a superb Alexander-Arnold free kick that beat Allan McGregor squarely.
Following the break, Mohamed Salah added a second goal with a penalty, and the lacklustre Rangers were grateful that McGregor prevented Liverpool from doing more damage by widening the score margin with more goals.
The Tuesday loss means the Scottish team has now given up nine goals in three group stage games but the Reds remained three points behind Group A leaders Napoli, who thrashed Ajax 6-1 in Tuesday’s other match of the group. Rangers are precariously stuck at the bottom of the standings after yet another disappointing performance in Europe.
On Saturday, Rangers will host St. Mirren back in some Scottish Premiership action. In the EPL, Liverpool will be away at the north London grounds of leaders Arsenal to attempt once more to get their season back on track.
