Alba Joins Inter Miami On Free Transfer, Adds Experience To Squad

July 20, (THEWILL) – Inter Miami have officially welcomed Jordi Alba to their ranks, as the veteran full-back joins the Major League Soccer club on a free transfer from Barcelona.

Alba’s move to Miami marks another high-profile ex-Barcelona player making the switch, following in the footsteps of Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets, who joined earlier, along with head coach Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino. The experienced defender has signed a contract that will keep him with the club until the end of the 2024 MLS season, with an option for the 2025 season.

With over 450 appearances for Barcelona and 93 caps for the Spain national team, Alba brings a wealth of experience and skill to Inter Miami’s squad. Miami’s Sporting Director and General Manager, Chris Henderson, commented on Alba’s versatility and quality in both defensive solidity and attacking contributions. The addition of Alba to the team is seen as a significant boost to Inter Miami, especially considering the absence of Franco Negri due to injury for the remainder of 2023.

With Alba’s arrival, the club aims to achieve its objectives for the ongoing season and beyond. Inter Miami is preparing for their opening game of the 2023 Leagues Cup against Cruz Azul and all eyes will be on the anticipated debuts of Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets for the club on July 21.

The addition of these marquee players, alongside the signing of Jordi Alba, elevates Miami’s status in the MLS and generates a buzz of excitement among fans and supporters. With the experience and talent brought by these esteemed players, they are poised to make a strong impact in the league and continue to evolve as a formidable force in North American football.
