Al Ahly Qualify For CAF Champions League Final After 2-2 Setif Draw

May 14, (THEWILL) – A 2-2 second-leg tie with ES Setif in the semi-finals presented Al Ahly with the opportunity to defend their title in the 2021-2022 CAF Champions League final.

The visitors, who had a four-goal advantage after a rout in the first leg, were unconcerned by the possibility of an epic upset in Algiers, and advanced to their third final in a row with a 6-2 aggregate triumph.

Setif regained some credibility against their Egyptian opponents on home turf, rebounding from Ahmed Abdel Kader’s second-minute opener to take the lead thanks to goals from Ahmed Kendouci, at the end of first half, and Riad Benayad, just past the hour mark.

However, the 10-time champions, who had been unblemished since the knockout stages began, were able to hold on to their unbeaten streak with a Mohamed Sherif goal in injury time.

The result sets up an all North African final match against Wydad AC of Morocco, who will have the advantage of playing on home soil as Stade Mohammed V was chosen to host the May 30 final.
