January 27, (THEWILL) – Levante Las Planas and Atlético Madrid’s women’s teams played out an entertaining 1-1 draw in the Primera Division on Saturday.
A wonder strike from Atlético’s Rasheedat Ajibade had given the visitors a 32nd-minute lead. Receiving a through ball from Xènia Pérez, the Nigerian forward found the net with a right-footed shot from the centre of the box.
The home side fought back bravely in the second half though and got their reward with 11 minutes left when Anissa Lahmari fired home from close range after Las Planas were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area. Both teams had chances to win it late on but a draw was probably the fair result between two well-matched sides.
The result sees Atlético drop points after their lofty 6-1 dismantling of Valencia on January 7. They remain on an unbeaten streak that has now stretched to seven matches in the top flight. For Las Planas, it is another poor return but they will be content with the point as they struggle to find wins since their last victory in November 2023.
Both sides are back in action next weekend in what promises to be another eventful round of fixtures in the women’s Primera Division. Las Planas are away to UDG Tenerife while Atlético host Levante.
