August 14, (THEWILL) – Airline Operators under the aegis of Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) have identified the need for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), to come up with more frequent meetings, quicker responses to their correspondences, further improvements on airport infrastructure, and the digitalisation of revenue collection, among others.

This is just as the Authority was asked to keep up the good work in the area of providing quality service, which the airline operators and passengers can attest to.

AON, therefore, commended the current management of FAAN, led by the Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, for her sincere efforts to bring about positive changes at the federal airports under its control.

The Vice President of AON and Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace, Dr Allen Onyema, gave the commendation and a vote of confidence during a meeting held on the 13th of August, 2024.

The meeting was convened by the management of FAAN to discuss salient issues concerning the aviation industry and was held at the New Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, with chief executives from 20 airlines in attendance.

Part of why the meeting was organised is for Mrs Kuku to enlighten AON on the plans the Authority has for airport development and to also listen to feedback from the operators in order to enable FAAN to provide better services that will benefit passengers.

The FAAN MD/CEO kicked off the meeting with a presentation on her priority programs of Safety, Security, Culture Transformation, Digital Transformation, Service Quality and Revenue Generation that are for immediate implementation. She expressed her desire to see FAAN become one of the top airport management companies in sub-Saharan Africa within the next decade and identified the need for collaboration with AON to achieve the goal.

Responding, Dr Onyema said AON members are happy to see how FAAN and the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo SAN, have approached airport management with a deep sense of responsibility.

“When the government does what is wrong, you can say it, but what is happening in FAAN is commendable,” the Air Peace CEO said. “The desire to do good is very, very transparent. You can see it. So, why won’t we have confidence in the system? This is no more fighting time; this is a time for collaboration.”

Directors of the Authority present included the Director of Engineering Services, Engineer Abiola Muniru Adejare; Director of Airport Operations, Captain Abdullahi Mahmood; Director of Special Duties, Mr Henry Agbebire; and Director of Aviation Security Services, ACP Afegbai Albert Igbafe (Rtd).

Also, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs Obiageli Orah, was in attendance and they all took turns to enlighten all attendees on the efforts being made to improve service quality at the airport.
