June 16, (THEWILL) – The member representing Owan West constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, has been elected as the new Speaker of the 8th Assembly.

Agbebaku is a two-time member of the Edo State House of Assembly.

His election followed a motion moved on Friday, by a member representing Eghor State Constituency, Ms Natasha Osawaru and seconded by member-elect representing Esan North East 1 Constituency.

Also, Mariam Edeko, representing Esan North-East constituency, emerged as the Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly following a motion moved by member-elect representing Ovia South West Constituency, Destiny Enabulele.

They were the sole candidates for the positions.

After the speaker and his deputy were sworn in, Agbebaku administered oath of office on other members of the House.
