November 07, (THEWILL) – Gboyega Adejumo, a chieftain of the pan Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has described as a joke, the endorsement of Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by Pa. Reuben Fasoranti.
Pa. Fasoranti, 96, a former leader of Afenifere, on 30th October, at a meeting in Akure, Ondo State, endorsed Tinubu’s Presidential bid; contrary to the earlier position of Chief Ayo Adebanjo, who had announced the decision of Afenifere to back Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP).
Fasoranti stepped down as Afenifere leader in 2021 for Chief Adebanjo after expressing concerns about his ability to continue leading the group.
Speaking on the development, Adejumo insisted that Afenifere, under the leadership of Chief Adebanjo, remains fully ‘Obidient’, a sobriquet for loyal supporters of Obi.
“Afenifere is fully Obidient. Nothing has changed. What happened in Akure ought not to happen, but it is the season…
“We’ve seen quite a slew of fake endorsements. What happened in Akure was a farce, a joke”, Adejumo said on ChannelsTV.
He said contrary to claims, 94-year-old Adebanjo remains the leader of Afenifere and not Fasoranti, stating that the latter handed over to the former in March 2021.
