March 27, (THEWILL) – In their latest 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, Guinea claimed a 3-2 victory against Ethiopia at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on Monday night, making it two wins out of two for the Guinean team.
The game started slowly, with Ethiopia settling on the ball and looking to progress high up the pitch. However, Guinea was quick to exploit the home team’s high defensive line in the 4th minute, with Francois Kamano finding Naby Keita, who slotted the ball away with ease.
After the early goal, both sides created few goal-scoring opportunities, and Ethiopia struggled to infiltrate the Guinean backline despite having up to 64% ball possession in the first half. Nevertheless, the hosts managed to draw level in the 34th minute through a well-worked passing move that Kenean Markneh finished off with a slick passing sequence.
However, Guinea took the lead again three minutes before the break with a powerful shot from Ilaix Moriba after another clever pass from Keita. The second half saw Guinea start on the front foot, but they were often let down by the final ball towards goal.
However, they eventually gained command of the tie in the 70th minute when Morgan Guilavogui added his name to the score sheet with a low-driving shot that beat the opposition goalkeeper. Ethiopia made a late push and managed to score a consolation goal in the 95th minute through Kitika Jima Ojulu, but Guinea held on to bag maximum points on the road.
