Adams Bags Record-Breaking Brace In Montpellier Draw In Debut Ligue 1 Game

August 13, (THEWILL) – Nigerian striker, Akor Adams, made Ligue 1 history on Sunday, by scoring the fastest debut brace in the French top flight during Montpellier’s 2-2 draw with Le Havre.

The 22-year-old found the back of the net twice in the space of just 102 seconds, breaking the previous record, according to data aggregation service OPTA. Adams opened his account in the 58th minute with a header from Teji Savanier’s cross to level the scores after Le Havre had taken an early lead through Gautier Lloris. The former Flying Eagles forward then doubled Montpellier’s advantage less than two minutes later, firing an unstoppable shot past the keeper, thanks to a through ball from Kiki Kouyate.

The Nigerian’s heroics looked to have secured all three points for the hosts, but Le Havre striker Samuel Grandsir spoiled the party by netting a 90th minute equaliser. Still, it was an unforgettable afternoon for Adams, who scored with both of his shots on target and impressed with his work rate before being substituted in the 77th minute.

Notably, the 60th minute goal from Adams was the fastest that any player has scored two goals on their Ligue 1 debut since advanced statistics began being tracked. The striker’s feat is made even more remarkable by the fact that he only touched the ball 21 times during his sparkling cameo.

Montpellier will be hoping Adams can maintain his red-hot form when they travel to take on Lyon in their next fixture on August 19. The Nigerian’s brace suggests he could play a key role in helping the side improve on last season’s 13th place finish in Ligue 1.
