November 07, (THEWILL) – The Federal Government has announced that rail service on the Abuja-Kaduna route will resume this month.

Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Jaji Sambo, announced this in Abuja on Monday.

Speaking at the second edition of the ‘PMB administration 2015-2023 scorecard’, Sambo said the rail route is to be subjected to 24-hour security surveillance to prevent any attack.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), on March 29, 2022, suspended train service along the route, after terrorists attacked a Kaduna-bound train in Katar, Kaduna State, on March 28, 2022, killing several and abducting scores of passengers.

Sambo said the ministry has learnt enough lessons from the attack in March, which led to the suspension of train service on the Abuja-Kaduna route.

He noted that a system has been put in place that will ensure prompt monitoring of movements on the rail tracks.

According to him, the system would afford President Muhammadu Buhari, concerned ministries and agencies as well as security agencies the opportunity to see what goes on on the tracks without delays.
