February 08, (THEWILL) – Abuja-based football academy, Derby FA, was involved in a goal-fest on Thursday morning, when they defeated Nigeria’s WAFU B Under-17 defending champions in a friendly match.
The final score was 6-4, with Derby FA showing their dominance and skill on the field. The victory was not the only impressive aspect of the game, as the Abuja-based academy completely outplayed the five-time world champions.
Nigeria’s U-17 national team, who are preparing for the 2023 U-17 AFCON in Algeria, struggled to keep up with the fast-paced and aggressive play of Derby FA. Winger Osaghae Uyiosa Eugene was a standout player for Derby FA, constantly breaking through the defence of the Golden Eaglets and contributing to the first goal of the game just six minutes in.
The game was watched by Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro and the Nigerian Federation Technical Director, Augustine Eguavoen, who were taking notes and observing the talented youngsters on the field of play.
This victory will surely raise the confidence of Derby FA and serve as a wake-up call for Nigeria’s National U-17 team as they prepare for the 2023 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations.
