BEVERLY HILLS, November 22, (THEWILL) – The Kogi State Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Abubakar Audu is dead.
APC sources in Kogi State said he died a few minutes after INEC declared Saturday’s election inconclusive.
THEWILL has independently confirmed the death of Prince Audu through one of his sons.
Our source who spoke to him said he confirmed that his father died a few hours ago following a sudden ailment.
One family source said the deceased politician had suffered a deadly stroke on Sunday morning after suffering from a sudden stomach ache the night before.
Prince Audu would be buried tomorrow morning in Kogi according to Islamic rites, family sources tell THEWILL.
Before his demise, Audu had received the highest number of votes in Saturday’s governorship election. He scored 240,867 while Idris Wada of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) got 199,514 votes.
The poll was however declared inconclusive by INEC because the total number of registered voters in 91 polling units, in 18 local government areas, where elections were cancelled is 49,953, significantly higher than the 41,353 votes that separates Audu and Wada.
A date for a supplementary election is expected from INEC.
