BEVERLY HILLS, November 03, (THEWILL) – The governorship election petition tribunal in Abia state has upheld the election of Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu (PDP) as governor of Abia State.

The tribunal, in its ruling, dismissed the petition filed by the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the April 11, 2015 governorship poll, Dr Alex Otti, for lack of merit.

Otti had filed a petition seeking to upturn the victory of Governor Ikpeazu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He had maintained that the election was fraught will irregularities, fraud and violence.

He also averred that elections did not hold in Obingwa, Osisioma and Isiala Ngwa North, three local government areas.

Political analysts had called the election in Otti’s and the results announced by INEC shocked watchers and residents of the state.

Otti is expected to appeal the ruling at the Court of Appeal and it is expected that the matter would be determined by the Supreme Court no matter the outcome at the appellate court.
