August 16, (THEWILL) – American rapper, Rakim Athelaston Mayers, also known as A$AP Rocky, has been charged with two counts assault and weapon use, during a shooting incident in California in 2021.
Rocky, who recently welcomed a baby with singer Rihanna, is accused of pointing a gun and later firing twice in the direction of the victim, a former friend of his, A$AP Relli.
Police record claims, “Two people were arguing in the Hollywood area of the city on November 6, 2021, when it escalated and the rapper allegedly fired a handgun. The person who was shot sustained a minor injury and sought medical treatment.”
In a statement on the matter, the LA County District Attorney, George Gascón, said, “Discharging a gun in a public place is a serious offence that could have ended with tragic consequences, not only for the person targeted, but also for innocent bystanders visiting Hollywood.”
Rocky, was arrested and released on a $550,000 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, at the Foltz Criminal Justice Centre and if found guilty could face nine years in prison.
