Late Bellingham Strike Salvages Draw For England Against Belgium

March 27, (THEWILL)- England mounted a late comeback to earn a 2-2 draw against Belgium in an international friendly at Wembley, on Tuesday. Jude Bellingham’s 95th-minute goal rescued a point for the Three Lions after Youri Tielemans’ first-half brace had put the visitors ahead.

Belgium bizarrely took the lead when Jordan Pickford’s misplaced pass allowed Tielemans to slot home. Ivan Toney equalised from the penalty spot, but Tielemans’ powerful header restored Belgium’s advantage before the break. Gareth Southgate’s injury-hit squad dominated possession but struggled to convert their chances.

The introduction of substitutes injected new life into England’s attack, and Bellingham missed a glorious opportunity before finally levelling the scores deep into stoppage time. The late goal capped an entertaining encounter in which both teams displayed attacking intent and defensive vulnerabilities.

Despite the draw, England’s performance offered encouragement ahead of Euro 2024, with several young players impressing against a talented Belgian side. However, Southgate will be concerned by his team’s defensive lapses and profligacy in front of goal as they prepare for the upcoming European Championship in Germany.
