August 10, (THEWILL) — The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports alleging that he is lobbying to become the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general election, insisting that he has neither sought nor discussed any campaign appointment with anyone.
The former Rivers State governor, however, reaffirmed his unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid, declaring that he does not need any official title within the APC campaign structure to ensure the President records decisive victories in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Wike was reacting to reports circulating in sections of the media claiming that he was among prominent political figures and government officials either lobbying for or being considered for the influential campaign position.
But in a statement issued on Monday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the minister described the report as entirely false, urging the public to disregard what he called unfounded speculation.
According to Wike, he has never held any conversation regarding the leadership or membership of the APC Presidential Campaign Council and remains focused on governance rather than political appointments.
“I am outside Nigeria, resting and relaxing after spending over 30 days commissioning projects, flagging off new ones, and inspecting ongoing ones, especially those scheduled for commissioning in December and January next year,” he said.
The minister explained that his short vacation followed an intensive period of official engagements during which he commissioned completed infrastructure projects, launched new ones, and inspected several strategic developments across the Federal Capital Territory.
He noted that his immediate concern upon returning to Nigeria would be to continue implementing projects aimed at transforming Abuja in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“When I return, our focus will be the continuous delivery of our mandate in line with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda and to further enhance his electoral fortune in Rivers State and the FCT.
“Therefore, I do not need to be the DG or even a member of the Presidential Campaign Council of Mr President’s political party to contribute my quota by ensuring that he wins handsomely in Rivers State and the FCT,” Wike stated.
No Interest in the campaign Office
The FCT Minister stressed that political influence should not be measured by the offices one occupies but by the ability to mobilise support and deliver results.
His remarks suggest he is more interested in consolidating the achievements of the Tinubu administration through infrastructure development than in seeking prominence within the APC’s campaign machinery.
Wike’s statement also appears designed to put an end to growing speculation over the composition of the ruling party’s 2027 campaign team, as consultations and political permutations continue ahead of the next general election.
Although he has become one of the most influential figures supporting the Tinubu administration, Wike maintained that his loyalty to the President does not depend on occupying any formal campaign office.

Growing Role In Tinubu’s Political Calculations
Since joining the Federal Executive Council in August 2023, Wike has emerged as one of the administration’s most visible cabinet members, overseeing an ambitious infrastructure renewal programme in the nation’s capital.
His political alliance with Tinubu has remained one of the defining features of Nigeria’s post-2023 political landscape, despite his continued association with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The former governor has repeatedly declared that President Tinubu deserves a second term based on what he describes as visible development projects and bold economic reforms, while promising to deploy his political structure in Rivers State to support the President’s re-election.
