December 16, (THEWILL) – Newcastle United continued their stellar home form with a 3-0 English Premier League victory over Fulham on Saturday, their seventh consecutive league win at St James’ Park. A first senior goal from 17-year-old midfielder Lewis Miley set the Magpies on their way before further strikes from Miguel Almiron and Dan Burn wrapped up a hard-fought three points.
The match saw Fulham reduced to 10 men inside the opening half-hour when striker Raul Jimenez was dismissed for a poor challenge on Sean Longstaff. Newcastle ultimately made their man advantage count in the second period, with Miley breaking the deadlock just past the hour mark. Almiron added a second after latching onto an Anthony Gordon through ball before Burn bundled home a late third to put the gloss on the scoreline.
The win sees Newcastle climb two points above seventh-placed Manchester United. Manager Eddie Howe was also able to name an unchanged starting XI despite injuries to key players Fabian Schar and Joelinton before kick-off.
Fulham boss Marco Silva will be disappointed his side could not replicate their recent 5-0 and 7-0 thrashings of Sunderland and Luton Town.
However, the manager will likely be aggrieved that Jimenez’s first-half dismissal hampered any chances of the Cottagers claiming a positive result on Tyneside. Fulham remain seventh in the EPL table despite the loss.
