11-Point Agenda Underway To Revive Tourism Sector In Cross River

September 12, (THEWILL) – In a major move to revive the tourism sector of the state’s economy, the Cross River State government has unveiled an eleven-point agenda, aimed at reviving the tourism sub-sector in the state.

Prince Ojoi Ekpenyong, the managing director of the Cross River State Tourism Bureau, disclosed this in Calabar, during a media parley and engagement with stakeholders in the sector.

He disclosed that the agenda put in place to revive the sector is strengthening stakeholder initiatives, showcasing existing attractions, encouraging private sector investment, public-private partnerships and marketing campaigns.

Others are training/capacity building, leveraging events and festivals, quality assurance/feedback mechanisms, tourism information centres, tourism Ambassadors programme, as well as collaboration with tour operators and travel agencies.

Prince Ekpenyong said the administration is “dedicated to engaging the private sector and regaining their trust through a series of strategic initiatives designed to yield quick and tangible results.

“The new tourism bureau believes that by focusing on these short-term initiatives, and low-hanging fruits, we can not only reinvigorate our tourism sector but also strengthen partnerships with the private sector.

“This comprehensive plan underscores our commitment to responsible and sustainable tourism practices ultimately positioning Cross River State as a premier destination for tourists from around the world”, he said.

Also speaking, one of the stakeholders in the sector and General Manager of Hogis Luxury Suites, Joseph Eyo Nsa, appealed for an effective feedback mechanism between the operators and the Bureau.

Similarly, Ray Murphy, a stakeholder, welcomed the interface between the bureau and the stakeholders in the sector. He maintained that it is a step in the right direction.
