Nnamdi Kanu’s Release Not Part Of Discussions With South-East Govs – Obasanjo

July 03, (THEWILL) – Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said the release of Nnamdi Kanu was not part of discussions during his meeting with the South East Governors in Enugu State on Tuesday.

THEWILL had reported that Governors of the South Eastern part of the country, on Tuesday, met in Enugu to discuss issues of regional development.

However, in a communique issued at the end of the meeting and read by the Chairman of the Southeast Governor’s Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, the Governors resolved to meet with President Bola Tinubu to seek the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Before their meeting, Obasanjo and Chief Emeka Anyaoku had met with them to discuss matters related to regional development.

In his clarification on Wednesday, the former President, in a statement issued through his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, said issues discussed at the meeting were regional development, including security and infrastructure.

“Others were economic and cooperative/collaboration, which was meant to complement the national economic development agenda.

“The meeting with them was at my invitation and of Chief Emeka Anyaoku before their summit begins.

“The issue of Nnamdi Kanu was not on the agenda and was not discussed in my presence,” he said.

The Governors at the meeting were Hope Uzodinma of Imo, Alex Otti of Abia, Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi, and Peter Mbah of Enugu.
