Zamfara: Panel Probing Deputy Governor’s Alleged Misconduct Submits Report

February 23, (THEWILL) – The seven-man panel investigating the alleged gross misconduct and abuse of office against Zamfara State Deputy governor, Mahdi Aliyu Gusau, has submitted its report to the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon Nasiru Muazu Magarya.

Chairman of the panel, Halidu Tanko Soba, who led other members to the Assembly, directed his deputy, Oladipo Opekseyin (SAN), to present the report on behalf of the panel.

Soba stressed that the panel has done its best in handling the assignment given to it with utmost integrity.

According to him, the panel has not “given the report or submitted to anybody and nobody has copies” of the report except the Assembly Speaker.

Responding, Speaker Magarya, while welcoming the panel to the Assembly, commended it for a job well-done.

The speaker promised to handle the report with utmost care and work strictly based on constitutional provisions, especially Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution.

THEWILL earlier reported that the panel closed its hearing on Tuesday.

However, the deputy governor was absent and was not represented by any legal counsel throughout the sitting.

The Panel began sitting at the State High Court 4, Gusau on Monday, February 21, 2022.

The Zamfara State House of Assembly has on Feb. 9, directed the state Chief Judge, Justice Kulu Aliyu, to set up an investigative panel over allegations of gross misconduct levelled against the deputy governor.

The House at its extraordinary plenary unanimously agreed that the deputy governor be investigated for breaching Sections 190 and 193 (1), (2) (a)(b)(c) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Eighteen members who were present at the plenary, out of the 22 members of the House voted in favour of the motion and no member voted against the impeachment motion.
