March 28, (THEWILL) – Wrexham, a National League team owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, will face English Premier League giants, Manchester United, in a pre-season friendly in the United States, later this year.
The fixture is the first confirmed match of Man Utd’s summer tour in the USA, and a number of the club’s academy products will be in action. The match is due to be held at the Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego on 25 July, and Wrexham manager, Phil Parkinson, is looking forward to the historic occasion.
“We’re looking forward to being able to play in the United States for the first time in the club’s history,” he said. “The tour will be an excellent opportunity for us to prepare for the 2023/24 season, and the match against Manchester United will be a competitive fixture and a good test for us.”
Man Utd’s Football Director, John Murtough, sees the tour as a great opportunity for the club’s young academy players to gain valuable experience in the first-team environment. “Manchester United has a history of nurturing and promoting youth,” he said.
“This is a chance for not only Erik but also our US supporters to assess the homegrown talent that is developing within our Academy.”
