November 22, (THEWILL) – Golf icon Tiger Woods has announced that he will team up once again with his 14-year-old son Charlie to compete at the 2023 PNC Championship in December. This marks the fourth straight year that the father-son duo, nicknamed ‘Team Woods’, will play in the annual tournament, which involves major champions playing alongside a family member.
The 2023 PNC Championship is scheduled for December 14-17 at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida. Woods and his son finished 7th in 2020, runner-up in 2021 to John Daly and his son, and T-8 last year. The 2022 defending champions are Vijay Singh and his son Qass.
Woods has not played competitively since undergoing ankle fusion surgery in April 2022. However, he noted that his ankle has healed well and he looks forward to teaming up with Charlie. “The bonding…just to be able to be out there and share this with Charlie, it just means so much to all of us,” Woods commented in 2022 about playing with his son.
The 47-year-old Woods recently announced he will return to tournament golf at the 2023 Hero World Challenge in November. The PNC Championship allows the use of golf carts, which Woods has utilised in the past. He has been spotted walking while carrying Charlie’s bag at several junior events as the now 15-year-old Charlie continues to progress rapidly in tournament play.
Team Woods will look to capture their first PNC Championship title against a field of 20 major champion-family teams. Woods noted ongoing issues with areas surrounding his ankle but did not express concern about his ability to compete alongside his son at the scramble format event in December.
