May 20, (THEWILL) – The men’s and women’s singles draws for Roland-Garros 2022 were released on Thursday, revealing some exciting matchups and highly anticipated prospective matches.
Iga Swiatek, the world number and the 2020 champion, will start her 2022 campaign in Paris against a qualifier. Swiatek, who has won 28 consecutive matches, might face 2018 champion Simona Halep in the last-16 – the two practised together on Wednesday – with eighth seed Karolina Pliskova looming as a possible quarter-final opponent.
Number three seed, Aryna Sabalenka and Paula Badosa, both number seven seeds, share a quarterfinal and could face Swiatek in the semi-finals.
French Open Defending champion Barbora Krejcikova, seeded second, is in the same quarter with Estonian Anett Kontaveit, the number five seed and will face a tough challenge pulling through. Fourth seed in Greece Krejcikova might face Maria Sakkari or Tunisian sixth seed Ons Jabeur in the semi-finals.
The finals of the female event will begin with opening serves on June 4 where the possibility of one of Swiatek claiming another Roland Garros title high even with the challenge posed by title holder Krejcikova.
