October 05, (THEWILL) – The call for entries for the 19th edition of the Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Reporting (WSAIR) has been announced, with applications opened on Friday, October 4, and the submission deadline set for Thursday, October 24, 2024, by 4 p.m.

Motunrayo Alaka, Executive Director of the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ), issued the statement announcing this prestigious award organised by the WSCIJ to honour and celebrate the courageous efforts of investigative journalists and news media as protectors of the civic space.

According to Alaka, both full-time and freelance professional reporters or teams of reporters, who have published stories aimed at the Nigerian audience, are eligible to submit their work.

Journalists in print, online, photo, editorial cartoon, television, and radio genres are encouraged to apply. The judging panel will evaluate submissions based on criteria such as investigation quality, evidence, human rights focus, ethical reporting, public interest, and impact. The winners will be announced at the award ceremony in Lagos on December 9, 2024.

Since its inception in 2005, the award has recognised numerous investigative journalists, with 58 Soyinka Laureates and many honorary awards given over the years.
