BEVERLY HILLS, January 28, (THEWILL) – Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has revealed that in his bid to have the two armoured helicopters purchased by the immediate past administration in the state cleared by the Customs, he officially wrote to President Muhammadu Buhari asking him to hand over the aircrafts to the Nigerian Air Force, NAF.

He explained that the helicopters were offered to the NAF following the high customs duty charged for their clearance  and the refusal of the Buhari administration to grant the Rivers State Government waiver to clear the two armoured helicopters.
Recall that the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command of NCS had on Friday handed over two civil model Bell helicopters imported into the country by unknown persons to the NAF.

The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, said the aircraft were seized on November 7, 2016.

It explained that the aircraft were handed over to NAF because of the failure of the yet-to-be-identified importers to produce end user certificate from the office of the National Security Adviser.

The Customs said the action contravened the Customs and Excise Management Act.
