August 05, (THEWILL) – British heavyweight contender, Dillian Whyte, has adamantly denied any wrongdoing following the discovery of “adverse analytical findings” from a random anti-doping test, which led to the cancellation of his highly-anticipated rematch with Anthony Joshua.
The Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) reported the concerning results, prompting fight promoter Matchroom to call off the all-British clash originally scheduled at London’s O2 Arena on August 12, as THEWILL previously reported. Whyte, known for his 16-fight unbeaten record until his loss to Joshua in 2015, was shocked and disappointed and pledged to fight the result and clear his name.
In a statement on Twitter, Whyte noted: “I can confirm without a shadow of doubt that I have not taken the reported substance, in this camp or at any point in my life.” He had personally insisted on 24/7 VADA testing for the upcoming fight, highlighting his commitment to clean boxing and previous voluntary testing at his own expense.
This is not the first time Whyte has faced an adverse finding, but he remained resolute in proving his innocence. The Joshua-Whyte rematch had whipped up much interest after talks for Joshua to face Tyson Fury fell through. With former world champion Joshua linked to other potential matchups, including one with Deontay Wilder in Saudi Arabia, the bout against Whyte was meant to be a significant event for both boxers.
However, with the fight now cancelled pending a full investigation into the adverse findings, the boxing world awaits further developments while Whyte remains determined to clear his name and continue his quest for boxing glory.
