Why I Am Not Celebrating My Victory – ATSSSAN President

October 03, (THEWILL) – Newly elected national president of the Air Transport Senior Staff Services Association (ATSSSAN), Comrade Illitrus Ahmadu, has stated that he is neither excited nor celebrating his victory in Saturday’s union polls.

Comrade Ahmadu, at the third national delegate conference of ATSSSAN held in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, beat his closest rival, Comrade Ahmed Danjuma of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), by 49 votes to 34 votes.

Reacting to the victory, the assistant general manager (legal) at the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), said: “Well, I can’t tell you I am excited because I knew this was going to happen. I did say I will emerge victorious. I was convinced because of the works we have done. Our deliverables in the last 4 years plus. Because we are a senior staff union association, I have strong conviction in the membership that they will return us to continue what we started.

“We are not really celebrating because we are one family and we want to heal wounds. Whoever is aggrieved due to the outcome of this election, we want to assure them that we will work as a family to continue to foster the interests of our entire members in the aviation sector”.

On his plans for the association, he said: “If we were able to achieve in the midst of challenges. We are now on a sound financial footing to begin to plan towards the future. My assurance is that I will do more than I did in the last 4 years.

“We should not lose hope. I want employers and labour to work together. So that we amicably resolve issues pertaining to our workforce and prosperity of the industry. This is not a time to begin to have protracted disagreement or dislocation of services. We will continue to dialogue to the benefit of the industry.”
