January 31, (THEWILL) – West Ham United manager David Moyes has high hopes for his newest signing, midfielder Kalvin Phillips. Phillips joins the London club on loan from English Premier League champions Manchester City until the e cdnd of the 2023/2024 season.

Moyes believes Phillips can have a similar impact to Jesse Lingard, who excelled during a loan spell at West Ham in 2021. Lingard scored nine goals in 16 appearances, helping the club qualify for the UEFA Europa League.

“His pedigree over the years has made me feel he’s a player I’d like to have at the club,” Moyes said Wednesday, adding: “For some time he’s been a mainstay of the England national team.”

Phillips will look to regain top form in claret and blue as he pushes for a spot in England’s squad for Euro 2024. “I’m hoping Kalvin can have a similar impact as what Jesse had,” Moyes stated.

The 27-year-old midfielder could make his debut versus Bournemouth on Thursday. West Ham will hope Phillips can boost their European ambitions, while the player sees it as a chance to relaunch his career.
