Wema Bank Manager Allegedly Steals N9.2m

SAN FRANCISCO, October 07, (THEWILL) – The Transactions Service Team Manager, WEMA Bank Plc, Ajah Branch, Johnson Akpata has allegedly stolen the sum of N9, 290,785.

Akpata, 36, was charged before the Igbosere Chief Magistrate Court on two-count charges of “alteration, falsifying ATM records and stealing.”

The Management of Wema Bank Plc said “Akpata, 36, from Kogi State and a resident of Little Saint Avenue, SeaSide Estate, Badore, Ajah, Lagos who was a Service Team Manager at its Ajah branch stole N9, 290,785 he ought to deposit into the bank’s account number 0123015695.”

Akpata was also alleged to have altered and falsified the records of Wema Bank ATM reconciliation for ATM 2 & 3 between 17 July, 2020 and 22 July, 2020.

Police Counsel, Chinedu Njoku said the offence is contrary to and punishable under sections 287(7) and 336 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The accused, who maintained his innocence, was granted bail of N500, 000 with two sureties by Chief Magistrate A.O Komolafe.
