July 03, (THEWILL) – At UFC 276 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Alexander Volkanovski once more proved to be too much for Max Holloway, retaining his Featherweight title against the Hawaiian by unanimous decision.
Their dramatic trilogy came to an end with Volkanovski’s win. Yet, despite their acquaintance with one another, Round 1 was marked by a protracted feeling-out phase. When they began tossing hands, Volkanovski’s quickness was what stood out.
This pattern persisted as the Australian delivered incisive retorts to practically every Holloway advance. By the end of the second round, Holloway had a terrible cut over his eye from Volkanovski. The champion’s agility was outstanding, but his technical skill was also on display. He continually set up his strikes, which annoyed Holloway since Volkanovski disrupted his flow.
Despite being in the middle of an incredible run in the featherweight category, it was Volkanovski’s most accomplished bout to date. He destroyed Holloway to make his career record against him to 3-0. Volkanovski is eager to put this contest behind him and begin working toward his goal of becoming a champ-champ.
He commented on this after his victory saying: “After this one, I want that double-champ status. My division is in a spot where we can see what happens while I go after that double-champ lightweight title fight.”
