February 07, (THEWILL) – Real Madrid winger, Vinicius Junior, has been the target of racist abuse from fans and rough treatment on the pitch by opposing players this season.
This has led to increasing concerns from the Brazilian about the atmosphere surrounding him. Sources close to the Real Madrid dressing room have reported that Vinicius has been deeply affected by the incidents of racism he has experienced this season.
La Liga announced that it will investigate the latest incident, which has been described as “intolerable.” Vinicius was fouled 10 times during Real Madrid’s recent loss to Mallorca, the most he has suffered in any game this season. He also clashed with Mallorca defenders, Antonio Raillo and Pablo Maffeo, and was effectively assaulted by Valencia’s Gabriel Paulista, in a separate game.
Despite his private complaints, Vinicius feels that referees and sections of the Spanish media are responsible for creating an “atmosphere of tension” around him. He is unhappy with the media’s focus on him, the victim, rather than on those targeting him with racist abuse and rough treatment on the pitch.
Real Madrid Coach, Carlo Ancelotti, has spoken out about the issue, saying “it’s a Spanish football problem, and as a part of Spanish football, I think it’s a problem we have to solve.”
