Veteran Journalist Sidi Ali Is Dead

April 26, (THEWILL)- Veteran Journalist and Second Republic lawmaker, Sidi Ali, has died at the age of 86.

The deceased, who is also the father of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s acting Director, Corporate Communication Department, Hakama Sidi Ali, died on Thursday evening in Kano State.

Ali served at the Nigerian International Press Centre, the Ministry of Information and the National Broadcasting Commission.

A Human Rights activist and former lawmaker, Shehu Sanni, who posted on his X handle on Friday, described the deceased as a human library who could recall every event in Nigeria’s history.

“I received the sad news of the demise of renowned elder statesman, author, journalist, politician, and historian, Alhaji Sidi Ali.

“The late Sidi was a human library and prolific writer. He was a man who could recall every event that happened in Nigeria till late independence. A great loss. My condolences to his family and people of Kano State,” he said.

Meanwhile,  the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has, on behalf of the Federal Government, extended deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of  Ali.

The Minister, in a statement, described Late Sidi Ali as a respected veteran journalist, prolific writer, and politician whose contributions to the field of journalism, literature, and politics have left an indelible mark.

The statement adds that Ali, throughout his career, exemplified high standards of professionalism and integrity and provided invaluable insights with historical references into the pressing issues of time.

Mohammed Idris said that as the nation mourns the loss of Alhaji Sidi Ali, his wisdom, compassion, and dedication to his craft will continue to inspire generations to come.

Also, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, described as painful the death of Sidi Ali.

The Speaker, in a condolence message issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, said the late Ali was a good ambassador of the National Assembly until his death.

He also described the late Ali as one of the brilliant minds from the northern part of Nigeria.

While commiserating with the late Sidi Ali’s family, the people, and the Government of Kano State, Speaker Tajudeen prayed that Allah grant him Jannatul Firdaus.
