May 29, (THEWILL)- Boxing’s heavyweight division is set for another blockbuster showdown as Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury prepare for their highly-anticipated rematch on December 21 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The announcement comes just weeks after Usyk’s split decision victory over Fury, crowning the Ukrainian as the undisputed heavyweight champion.
In a thrilling battle at the Kingdom Arena earlier this month, Usyk defied the odds by outpointing the previously undefeated Fury to claim the WBA, WBC, IBF, and WBO heavyweight titles. The 37-year-old became the first undisputed heavyweight king since Lennox Lewis in 2000, etching his name in boxing history.
Per the fight contract’s rematch clause, Usyk granted Fury an immediate opportunity to reclaim the unified titles. Saudi entertainment head Turki Alalshikh confirmed the news, stating: “The world will watch another historical fight again. Our commitment to boxing fans continues. We hope you enjoy it.”
Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren, remains optimistic about the British fighter’s chances in the rematch. “Tyson knows what he has to do, and I’m sure Usyk does,” Warren told Sky Sports. “It was a fight of two halves. Both were in an absolute war; it will be interesting to see who it has impacted the most.”
